A route up the wonderful Sugar Loaf hill. Amazing from the summit, some crags to explore and a lovely trig point as well. The Sugar Loaf is a hill to view from afar due to its distinctive shape and relative isolation. When you're on the summit you'll have of the Black Mountains, Skirrid and even Central Brecon Beacons. On the right day you'll get the summit to yourself for short periods, but generally expect it to be reasonably busy. A day out and a circular walk. Parked at the National Trust car park. The road up is narrow with parking spaces. We arrived on a sunny day and the weather was great. Walmart up to the top to admire the views, to return through the forested valley. Excellent car which makes the ascent of Sugar loaf a lot easier, although the road is single track with limited passing spaces Lovely to for a 🚶‍♀️ From the National Trust car it will take around 45 mins to get to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. If you go up on the went side and down on the east, it is a bit rock and sandy on the way down but mostly a moderate hike. Took us less than 2 hours round trip. Love this mountain, panoramic for miles on a day. I went around 3:30 on a Friday and didn't see anyone, we had the whole place to myself which was nice. Wild horses and sheep roamed around the mountain which was nice to see. It was very windy at the top when I visited so make sure you have the proper clothing and also footwear. It's a that starts flat and gradually increases until at the top. Lovely hike, view, would recommend It was an amazing with amazing views. It's to get your heart pumping when going up the hill. very enjoyable. And a steady walking pace with breaks takes about 1 hour 30 mins to navigate to the top. Once at the top amazing views. Would recommend when the weather is right. Bring correct shoes, food, and drink. Recommend doing the with others Really hike! Family friendly. Make sure take some water and snacks. Car can get full also getting to car can be tricky too. Beautiful scenery and very peaceful around and then up to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. Absolutely gorgeous weather for our visit made it that extra bit special. It was lovely to also see the wildlife, including the Welsh Mountain ponies. The top car offers access to Sugar Loaf which is a walk. accessibility, you can do a lot of the on gradual slopes and relatively terrain. So if you want to avoid the steepness you can do a lot of the and wait at the bottom of the last stretch which is on uneven, steeper, rocky terrain. It's a beginner and more family friendly 'mountain' with wonderful at all times, and easy to follow routes to keep you on path and not get lost. Definitely recommend - as does my mum who had a wonderful time walking there last year Amazing from the top but the drive up there was a bit hairy. Tight, one lane road with sheep randomly enjoying the grass on the road. Go carefully. We lost internet on the way up and back down momentarily so Google Maps led us astray. All in the end though One of our favourite places to visit from Bristol, to see somewhere wild and beautiful. It absolutely poured as we got to the top - glad we'd got the right gear handy 'just in case ' Beautiful. Did the challenging route. 10/10. Lovely view from The Top. We managed to find what we think was one of the hardest routes to the top but it made it worth the climb. It's a national trust site. hike. Took me around 3 hours with time spend on top. Amazing view from top. Lots of wild horses. The itself is great, and on a sunny day you can get (lucky for us it was a sunny day, but very windy) The only issue I would say is if you at the national trust car park, it can get very full and then you are either waiting around for people to leave or you just drive around finding another place to park. There is a small free car on the other side of the mountain which is as not many people know of it. All in all a day. Lovely up the mountain from the car park. Trails are easy to follow. Took around 50 mins to an hour each way and the are spectacular. Tip, take the left fork, it’s an easier trek to the top and it’s then only the last bit which is steep. Around 250m elevation from the car park. 6km round trip. Take drinks and snacks for the top. Beautiful Straightforward if steep walking towards the top but nothing more beautiful on a bright day. Single track driving to the carpark, don't rush and be aware of passing places you may need to reverse or wait for someone to reverse for you. Kindness helps a lot when it's busy. A up Sugar Loaf from Forest Coal Pit, some amazing of the Black Mountains, and the Brecon Beacons Nice walk, around an hour up and less in way back down. Some steep parts but easy for most with some stunning around the valleys. The dogs loved it too. Lots of pathways all over the heaths beneath the hill with zero signage to help walkers who don’t know the area, but they All get there in the end.
