A fantastic location and the old ruin is super. It has excellent parking and many different walks, there is a charming stream running along the border with the main road. It is a steep up to the Octogen but well worth the trek. Underneath the octogen is like an old cell covered in Graffiti. But from a photography point of view that only added to the attraction of the whole location. David La Touche the Second built his favourite country retreat here between 1754 and 1756, at a cost of £30,000, and called it Bellevue. Beautiful gardens were laid out with winding paths and “extras” built by David and his son, Peter, when he inherited in 1785. Among these was the Octagon, built in 1766, with a panther on springs, which could be made to jump out at unwary visitors. The house was most famous for its huge glasshouse, built between 1783 and 1793, in which many exotic plants were grown. There is just the ruins here now as the house was knocked down in the 1950s Glen of the Downs is pure heaven, ferns, oak trees, ancient stone. The is steep but there is a path and narrower ones if you feel adventurous! The Octagon is at the top of the climb, the ruin of a once great room which viewed Wicklow from all angles. It is architecturally beautiful and worth the climb for the amazing views. It is ok for dogs , bikes and kids but you must be aware of other users. Nice small walk. Very lean on crowd and yet connected to motorway. Inside the park you may feel little lost initially but soon you will find ways and understand the terrain. It is nice place for little hike. The Octagon is locating on the Glen on the Downs and currently is under renovation. It can accessed from the Glen on the Downs carpark (located on N11) or from Kindlestwon Wood carpark. The nature trail has a looped trail of 3.6 km for people with moderate fitness. The Octagon is on the top and it is remining of the Bellevue Estate. It was built around 1766. Great location, never expected to find this little gem in these woods! And the ruins all around add up to the mood, too :) Great for hikers and cyclists 👍 it's a beautiful place. good to and the view is very good. parking entrance and entry is little difficult so careful about that. octagon is on the left side from the entrance of parking. In the middle of the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve you can find a small octagonal brick contruction. The view is just amazing and it is very peaceful. Be careful and bring your phone properly charge. You might get lost if you don't follow the paths. It is hard to get to and get out but if you are up for some adventure in nature this is a nice place!
