Inside the visitor will watch movies on big screens and do activities like kolonie families (weaving, processing milk, etc.) One of the most immersive museums I have been to in my life! It makes you so attached to the fairly unknown story if this colony (which basically became a founding base for the future welfare state principles in many countries). At the the same time, most of the buildings in the colony are very well preserved and it is unusually easy to feel like you are in a very different century. As a bonus, an incredibly cozy and fairly priced restaurant is adjacent to the museum, not mentioning that very nice people work at this complex. Definitely a must visit place in the north of the country. Tells you an almost not known story about how a Dutchman started a kind of welfare for the poor. But they had to work for their money. Well documented, a modern overview of an important part of Dutch history. Even with kids between 7 and 10 the visit was worthwhile. The video intro and the interactive games explaining the old ways, kept them interested. This is not a real museum, but an audiovisual presentation of the history of the colonies for poor, orphans, and criminals founded in the 19th century Interesting for children and adults!
