We did a at a charming little family-owned in Prepotto (in Friuli Italy near the Slovenian border). It was FABULOUS. One of the other visitors with us on our who is quite knowledgeable on claimed he was astounded by the quality of their Fruliano.The Sauvignon and Schiopettino were also excellent. If you are visiting this area, I highly encourage you to spend a few hours here. We had a delightful frittata and charcuterie platter along with the tasting. This is a to look for! This was a hidden gem to say least. Located literally right on the Italy/Slovenia border. Great and a terrific setting. Ana and her children- Mattea and Julia were very inviting and engaging right from the start. You honestly felt welcomed to their home right away. They were very knowledgeable about local restaurants and things to see. Breakfast had plenty of choices and was very satisfying. Last but not least is Menta - their Golden Retriever.........she recently had puppies when we were there and it was fun seeing their progress while we stayed there. Do NOT hesitate to stay here if you are looking for a quiet and undiscovered region of Italy by tourists. Can't wait to return! Such a great experience! Super relaxed vibe, and Mattia was an excellent host, offering recommendations off the bat for local places as well as for where we'd be visiting next. The we tasted, a mix of whites and reds, were all excellent, particularly the schiopettino, a signature of the Prepotto area. The tour of the cellar and the very friendly doggos were a plus. We recommend this stay. You must have been here at least once. You arrive in a wonderful region, full of vineyards. It’s fantastic to arrive on such a authentic winery, amazing. You can tell that great is made here. The hosts are the best we have ever experienced. Never before have we received such a hospitable and friendly welcome. The rooms were authentic, beautiful, very comfortable and met all our expectations. The tour was very interesting. You will discover the secret of how Grillo Lole makes high-quality wine. A really nice family business. The was a lot of fun and you get to know a lot about the wines. We even bought some delicious wine. The are carefully and well packaged. Paying by card or cash was no problem. The breakfast is fantastic and leaves nothing to be desired. You have breakfast with a beautiful view over the vineyards and winery. Huge extensive and varied breakfast with fresh products and delicious coffee, tea and fresh juices. The host is always there for you and will help you get the most out of your stay and the surrounding area. Once again we recommend this stay, we enjoyed it and had a real good time. You can stop looking, you found it… At Grillo Iole we tasted, toured and talked our way through a golden afternoon on the day before the season’s first harvest. Even with a busy vineyard to deal with, we were treated to a relaxed and friendly experience focussed on their that was nothing less than extraordinary.
