Amazing place to go for a relaxing and watch animals. Great that there are so many nests with storks. Nice place to about while listening to birds. It's really nice. Big, though: you need quite a few hours to go all the way round, especially if you stop and look at things. We saw loads or water birds, some very impressive eagles and a bunch of rabbits. And maybe an otter. Amazing views! Grate walk! And so much wild life ☺ Brilliant bird watching location saw storks nesting and Marsh Harriers An amazing location for a walk. Beautiful wildlife and amazing scenery. The bird observation huts and tower are worth investigating. 5k jog around lake. Storks, eco building to view. Perfect. I've been birding at the Estany d'Ivars quite regularly since its regeneration in the 2000s decade. As a birder and ecologist my view of the Estany (lake) is mixed, with both praise and frustration springing to my mind whenever I visit. Let's start with the praise. That the lake exists at all is praiseworthy to all those involved in its inception, creation and maintenance. At the turn of the century the area was intensively farmed and not at all attractive to any interesting nor did it have any qualities to attract visitors. Now it is a large inland lake with shallow water, reed-fringed in many parts, with islands which are home to roosting and nesting birds. You can or cycle around the whole perimeter of the lake; there's a visitor centre, observation hides and tower; it's well signed; it's approachable from both ends with ample parking space and even picnic tables and chemical toilets. So in all it is pretty well-equipped for the visitor. So my main frustration? It's about lost potential. It could be so much more. But to be that it needs vision, compromise and above all a lot of work and money. And, as usual with conservation projects, once the initial flurry is over, "money's too tight to mention". I could say so much more here, but it's not the time or place. There have been some wonderful over the years, too many to mention, with national and regional rarities and regular visitors which are scarce elsewhere in the region. It's still possible to see Purple Swamphen, Purple Heron, Penduline Tit, Great Reed Warbler and many other of interest, but if visiting for the first time don't plan to make it the main venue of the day, and just let yourself be pleasantly surprised by anything of interest that you may encounter. Great place for bird-watching. You can around it in about an hour or cycle in 20mins.
