This is our 4th visit to Avignon and we are still amazed by beauty of the Provence. Super helpful staff! This office has free maps of Avignon neatly shelved right as you enter. I was even offered a free map of Arles, plus information on bus and train schedules, more than I expected, all delivered with a smile by an enthusiastic and patient young man. Particularly friendly and helpful. When I lost a ticket they had given me,they remembered me and issued me another. Close to train station. Maybe they should add a sign opposite to train station,I didn't see any there Avignon is a wonderful city to visit. A good starting place is the tourist office which is a short distance up the road from the railway station. I'd already bought a Avignon Pass online and needed to collect the free transport pass that went with it. At the main desk I was directed to another desk in the shop. The lady there gave me the 24 hour transport ticket. I'd also made a mistake purchasing a ticket for my daughter. I could have bought an add on making the ticket cheaper. I had expected her to say it couldn't be changed, but she made a phone call and within a few minutes it was all sorted out. I couldn't fault her and had such a nice visit to Avignon that day. These ladies and gents do a terrific job. All of them greet you with a smile. Most of them speak English well (which is greatly appreciated) and they can give you the breakdown of the passes and where to visit. J'ai réservé il y a plusieurs semaines le palais des papes et sur place je m'aperçois que mon billet ne donne pas accès aux jardins où se trouve une oeuvre d'Othoniel. Où était-ce écrit qu'il y en avait une ? Nulle part. En plus, on pense que l'achat du billet permet d'accéder aux différents sites, ms pas du tout : les autres musées d'Avignon sont en réalité gratuits ! Pas de liste claire des sites, à part sur des affiches en ville. Sur le site internet, faut aller fouiller alors que cela devrait apparaître en premier ! Cela m'aurait évité la déconvenue de l'accès aux jardins pontificaux ! Pour finir, à l'office, le livre d'Othoniel n'est même pas disponible. Assez consternant. Et l'entrée des bains Pommer, on était plusieurs à la chercher ! Signalétique suffisante ? Non. On est passés devant sans le voir ! Came to Avignon for 2 days specifically to see the Palais des Papes. They alerted me to the closure due to the Louis Vuitton fashion show. I book my day trips around the opening after the show…just to arrive to learn they closed early because they never finished cleaning up for the show. Also at 3:00am I was woken up but workmen dragging metal crowd barriers down the street. I guess you only count if you can afford to wear their clothes. We are new to avignon, the lady explained us what events are happening in Avignon and the surrounding areas. We were here to catch the last lavender, and she provided us some possible places and an alternative solution in case we fail. I am 100% recommend to visit the tourist centre to find out any seasonal events Super friendly and incredibly helpful. We wanted to get a day trip at the last minute and the person called every single agency for a slot. Some multiple times. We got the booking thankfully but even if we didn't I was very impressed by the service provided.
