Very interesting place to call for a browse or drink. Lots of choices for restaurants and bars. Maybe a bit tacky for some. One of the nicest and most quaint places on this part of the Algarve. We parked - free - on the beach area and walked into the town in 10-mins. It's an atmospheric little place, right across the water from the much less attractive Portimao! Excellent food in one of many restaurants in the square and plenty of places to shop for good quality mementos. Highly recommended. Lovely typical Portuguese back street to walk through. Lively square, full of restaurants. See if you can spot the storks nesting on top of industrial chimneys scattered around. Lovely beach area within walking distance from the main square. We visited the old town, caught the river taxi which is a great experience, about 10 minutes to cross, so worth it. Went to the old fort, but it's been closed for a while. There are some stunning beaches there and worth the visit. This is my favorite village in the Western Algarve. I love it so much I moved here. The main square is always lively, often with music and great people watching. Many restaurants to choose from. Fun to watch the fishermen repairing nets and bringing in their catch.
