St. Finbarr's is a peaceful and comforting little oratory. Must mention St. Finn Barres Cathedral in Cork city as well; it is my favorite in Ireland so far. Equally charming and some spectacular architecture. We missed the oratory first trip and I'm very glad we went back! Gougane Barra: Almost Said "I Do" in Paradise! Nearly got married here but there was no priest around, saying that it was 8 o'clock in the morning mid December, we probably should have given someone some notice we were coming  😂 Spectacular scenery doesn't even begin to cover the breathtaking beauty. We were absolutely spellbound by the landscape, and the crisp, mid-December air only added to the magic. Imagine our delight to find the lake semi-frozen, creating the most perfect, mirror-like reflection of that iconic and sacred little church. Thanks again Colette for all your help making our wedding day so special! A beautiful church situated on an island lake in a beautiful valley. The place exudes Peace and contentment. Surrounded by some of the most brilliant scenery anywhere in Ireland. Very difficult to get here but we'll worth it. 6th century oratory in the most beautiful location. The views are stunning. The most beautiful place for a wedding, absolutely magical! The views across the lake and the mountains are breathtaking! The place is amazing, the mountains, the lake, the church offering a calm and peace vibe. I must say this is one of the best place to go here in Ireland. It’s a 1 and a half hour drive the city of Cork. There are hotel options nearby the place which you can consider to stay in if you wish to stay overnight in the area. Nothing beats the view it is as if you are looking at a real life painting just in front of you. You can also try trekking going to the mountains. There are lots of picnic area you can choose from. There is available toilet which is very important as well. Definitely I will consider to go back again soon. Very scenic and beautiful spot to visit, definitely a must-see! I thought it would be more secluded but there is a hotel and a small tourist shop nearby. Parking was free but the spaces were limited, thankfully it wasn't too busy in the evening when I visited. You are charged if you want to drive around the nearby forest park, but if you walk it's free. It's a relatively flat walk and you can enjoy a view of the hills and forest. You're able to go inside the church as well.
