Its a walk/hike so make sure you wear confortable shoes, like hiking shoes or sneakers no sandals. And comfortable clothes as well. You need a hat it's super sunny a bottle of water, time and consistency because is a pretty longggg hike/walk. But its amazing 😍 Samaria This is a fabulous five star hike. Not an easy 20km, and you better be ready because once you there is no way out. I only give it 4stars because honestly it isn't safe. This runs through a narrow crack in the earth that is so deep you almost fall over backwards to see out of it. There are overhangs of unconsolidated landslides with rocks waiting to fall out. Only a few hundred yards into the a man less than 20 ahead of us got hit in the head by a falling rock. He was bleeding and knocked senseless and had to be hiked back out. Frankly that was not even close to the most dangerous place we saw. I am not a coward, I ice covered mountains all winter in Alaska... this is unnaturally deep and someday a big chunk will come down and kill some people and it will probably be closed. If you are adventurous, the odds are good that everything will be fine. I would advise to do it while you can. I am glad I did. But I will tell you, that if some of those spots don't make you nervous, you don't know much about geology... Les gorges de Samaria sont les deuxièmes gorges les plus grandes d'Europe. Les Gorges de Samaria sont un incontournable lors de votre sejour en Crète. Le chemin de randonnée n'est pas tellement accidenté, il y a quelques ponts en bois à traverser. Nous avons commencé la randonnée en commençant du village d'Agia Roumeli. Il vous faut marcher 2 kms avant d'entrer dans le sentier des Gorges. Une fois sur le sentier, il vous faudra 5-6 kms pour atteindre les Portes de Fer et l'Eglise ou se trouve une zone de pique nique. Le billet d'entrée est de 5 euros (il vous faudra montrer votre ticket pour sortir des Gorges). Klare Empfehlung! Es ist zu beachten, dass ausreichend Getränke mitgenommen werden. Auch sollten die Temperaturen von bis zu 38Grad berücksichtigt werden. Daher lieber etwas früher los und den tollen Weg genießen. Es gibt zahlreiche natürlich Quellen, welche Abkühlung bringen. We at 11.12 finished at 16:20 and then take the boat for 15 euro to Sougie(or similar) It’s definitely not a in the park. You need to be in good shape, and if you’re afraid of heights I wouldn’t recommend going here. There’s a downhill and some of the rocks are slippery. On vient de loin pour faire cette randonnée, on prend un bateau, on se lève tôt et le site est fermé sans raison, ciel bleu comme sur ma photo !, pas de vent, aucune pluie prévue, ni qui ne soit survenue ce jour. If the from the top seems to difficult you can opt for a easy route where u from the sea. Very beautiful hike, absolute must if you're in Crete and like hiking. We started from the top at Samaria at 7 am, and was down by the sea 5.5 hours later at 12:30 including 45 min. of breaks. The is a 13 km route. We were two young and quite fit men, and it was quite an easy downhill for us, but it is better to go slower and be safer because there's plenty of rocks to trip on so you should take your time. If you go slowly you can easily reach Agia Roumeli in 7 hours. Then you'll also not have as sore calf muscles after - I still feel it now 5 days later. We matched perfectly with the sea when it started to get hot, so I recommend to early, when route opens at 7 am or not far after, then you can easily spend a few hours in Agia Roumeli enjoying the nice beach and one of the good or decent restaurants before the ferry leaves at 5 pm.
