Not everyday one gets to stay inside a castle. Good breakfast and options to sit inside or out. Fun exploring the castle , although beware there are precipitous drops just the other side of the climb all over canons! A cozy and intimate atmosphere in historic surroundings. Good quality breakfast and it is nice to have access to a refrigerator and freezer in the common area. The staff is nice and do their best to make us feel welcome. Nevertheless, I'm sorry to say that it is too expensive, especially high season prices. Our family room had a prize tag of 9000 NOK for 4 nights. With shared toilet and shower. And the walls are so thin that we could hear everything the neighbours talked about. Literally. Not easy to put children to bed, when the neighbour kids jumped in their beds. That being said, the whole area of the Varberg fortress is just amazing and well worth a visit. The museum at the peak is great, even for kids! A B&B like nothing else... Situated inside the old Fortress of Varberg! Cool experience to spend a night in this historical prison, not something you get to do often. Everything was simple and clean, kitchen is well equipped. Location in the old fortress is unique. Can totally recommend Top notch stay, great price. Location is truly magical! Excellent hostel on the waterfront at Varburg - next to the beautiful 'Coldbath' pavilion, & right on the Kattegattleden cycleway. The hostel is in an historic building which is an old fortress, surrounded by a moat, with spectacular sea views from the entrance. The rooms are clean, basic, & a good size - ours had a shared shower room (with one other room). Breakfast (continental buffet) was good, & the staff were efficient & super friendly (a guy called Karl). Bikes were stored inside a garage. Overall a really good value place to stay. 10/10.
