Beautiful, old church, dedicated to the Virgin, a beloved pilgrimage for the locals, going back for many years. If you happen to be in the island on the Assumption feast (15th of August) you can witness yourself the multitude of pilgrims, coming on foot from all parts of Lesvos to celebrate. In the courtyard of the there is a small museum containing the votive offers in gratitude of the people who were cured or otherwise helped by the Virgin. The is also worth a visit. Despite all the traffic in tourists, it maintained its character, reminding more of a than a holiday spot. There are nice cozy places to enjoy a greek coffee, prepared in the traditional way on warm sand. There are several ceramic shops and an array of workshops continuing the wood carving tradition of the masters. This is an important historical with such an interesting history as well as being spectacular, especially for such a relatively small town. A real must see. Loved it inside and out. You walk through a door in a wall and it’s such a lovely surprise to see this wonderful building. It used to be a monastery hence the surrounding wall. I especially was entranced by the beautiful array of lights in this church. Excellent place to Beautiful and sacred place. Filled with loving energy. Even for us non-orthodox people, this is a holy place. Be sure to look at the exquisitely wrought chandeliers. Bring a scarf to cover your head, bare shoulders, or bare legs our of respect. No photos allowed inside the church. A must see up on the mountain with a full of devotions from the faithful people. We tried the local pie called Vassilopita which is sold at the bakery in the middle of the and it's costly (paid 8 € for a piece packed vacuum), tried the coffee and it was all amazing. Amazing church, great place to and pray I’m an atheist but couldn’t resist visiting this amazing church. Peak aesthetics, one of the most intriguing interior designs I’ve ever seen in an Orthodox church. Moreover, it has been built since 1176. Love it. Lovely little way up a mountain. Nice quiet byzantine vibe here. Priests were ultra friendly. Very few gift shops out the front, mostly cafes and restaurants. Incredibly out of the way place you would really have to know you were coming here to find it as my party did. Γαλήνη ψυχής!!! A beautiful temple and square, it is worth visiting to admire the multitude of various decorations and feel its atmosphere. Unique with great atmosphere. Lovely to walk through and all roads lead to Panagia. Great atmosphere especially closer to the 15th Aug You should here😊lovely ⛪️ photos aren’t allowed inside the There you can see the miraculous icon of Panagia from Sion, created by Evangelist Loukas. The is at the centre of picturesque Agiasos. At the yard of the there is a museum with artifacts connected with the history of the Icon and the through the ages. A must place to at Lesvos island in Greece. Once in Agiasos, one should probably it. The only problem is the poor state of the rest rooms. An amazing to visit. Unique architecture and a mystifing aura. Surrounded by an amazing market and graphic cafeteria, it is a must location when visiting Lesvos Island. Από τις ποιο μεγάλες και κατανυκτικες εκλλησιες της λεσβου!
