Maybe one of the nicest spots in #Saarland Very nice to sit and chill! Sometime there are great events happening here in the summer. They could put more benches for sitting but mainly the only option the has! Beautiful park, clean, shady and cool also neatly arranged. Very comfortable to go with family and children. Small but beautiful park. There is a sport hall, a nice playground for the little ones as well as a spa/pool. An old arm of the Saar river is next to the park. It offers a peaceful walking loop of approximately 5 kilometers (that is *mostly flat) where one can experience contrasting scenery (and find a dog park). Nice place to walk or hang out or run. Stadtgarten Saarlouis is intertwined with the city's rich history, which dates back to the 17th century. Saarlouis was founded in 1680 by Louis XIV of France as a strategic fortress town to secure the newly conquered territories of the Saar region. Designed by the famous military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, the had a star-shaped fortification system, typical of Baroque-era defensive structures. The area where the Stadtgarten is located today was likely part of the open spaces within or near the fortress, used for military drills or as buffer zones. After Napoleon’s defeat, Saarlouis became Prussian in 1815 and later part of the German Empire. The fortress was gradually dismantled in the late 19th century, freeing up land for urban development. The Stadtgarten was likely established in the late 19th or early 20th century, as many German cities created public parks during industrialization to improve living conditions. After World War II, Saarlouis was rebuilt, and green spaces like the Stadtgarten became important for community life. While not as old as the itself, the Stadtgarten reflects Saarlouis' transformation from a military stronghold to a modern city. It hosts events that celebrate local culture, blending French and German influences. Not the cleanest stellplatz but in good walking distance of some excellent places to visit Ok Nice for walk and snack. Few spots to visit near by.
