Of course, it's best to go during good weather. It is slippery (dangerous) after rain. In hot weather, the route is even more demanding. Strong wind is also disturbing. A sunny spring or autumn day will be the best also because of the views, which are great not only from the top. The most popular trail starts from hotel El Refugio del Juanar. The place is quite popular, especially at weekends, as many trails starts there but you should be able to find a space to park a car. Go to the end of the road where you will find a gate and a slightly misleading information board, as there are only two trails marked there (no information about La Concha). After walking a few hundred meters, you will see the first small sign informing you about the trail to La Concha. Later, at the fork in the road, there will be another one (photos attached). Many people complained about the trail markings. I was walking for the first time and there was a competition taking place that day and the organizers had placed markers every few dozen meters, so I had no problems. On other days, official signage must suffice, which may be (more or less) problematic. It took me less than 4.5 to reach the summit and return, with a longer break at the top. The transition time between 4 and 6 that I read about earlier seems to be correct. It’s rewarding to get to the top of La Concha. The path is not very easy especialy from Istan side but the view is great. There is a bench at the top of the montain where you can sit and enjoy unlimited view on Costa del Sol from Malaga to Giblartar. Marbella and Puerto Banus are just straight below. VERY easy to put yourself in trouble by veering off a trusted/understood route. Amazing experience for sure though! I would recommend going with someone for sure and not alone or after noon from a safety first perspective. Views are breathtaking, I would grade this moderately challenging so fitness is a must if taking the route across the front face. The way down is not fun either way you look at it! 😂 This was my highlight of Marbella for sure! Good protective footwear and hydration essential. At least 1 litre recommended if around the mid 20 degree mark. If you don't like a challenge, heights or heat then skip it 😛 Absolutely magnificent views. I walked up via the Istan side, which I learned afterwards, is the steepest side of the mountain. They provide warnings that mountaineering skills are required for this hike. I was not entirely sure what that meant, but it’s true that it’s quite a challenging hike. If you do it in the summer, make sure to bring enough water and snacks. The views on the summit are rewarding. Very nice. Although not for the faint hearted, because it really is quite high and steep :) Very good 2 up 2 down from Istas with considerable speed. Trail is marked, but sometimes a bit tricky to follow. Especially going down. And the bushes scratch you. So not for kids. La Concha offers amazing views and a rewarding hike, but the trail is not well marked, so it’s easy to get lost. Bring a GPS, plenty of water, and snacks – it’s a long and challenging route, especially in the heat. Well worth it if you’re prepared!
