This modern viewing tower, located at the entrance of the Zaanse Schans, offers panoramic views of the traditional industrial landscape of the Zaan region—windmills, warehouses, and the Zaan River. Built primarily with wood, the structure pays homage to the region's timber-based industrial heritage while serving as an eco-friendly architectural landmark. A wonderful, village to visit! There were tourists around but definitely still enough to move around at your own pace on week day's. Enough 🧀 to eat for a year. Amazing place! Really beautiful, with great sightseeing of the Dutch Windmills. A taste of Holland's old lifestyle. One of the best places that I've visited in Europe. There's a nice place to taste the local cheese, chocolate or beverages. Totally worth the time to visit! The dutch are polite and warm-hearted. Unforgettable experience!!! Nice and picturesque place to visit outside Amsterdam . It’s a 20 min drive from Amsterdam and roads through countryside . Parking they charge €10 , and entrance is free to see wind mills . If you want to climb windmills there is a fee of 4.5€ for adult and 2€ for kids . It’s a nice place with lots of information about Dutch heritage and shops where you can taste as much as you want and buy them . If you're visiting Zaanse Schans, don’t miss the Uitzichttoren (viewing tower)—a spot that gives you a whole new perspective on the area. Climbing the tower is fairly easy, and once you're at the top, you're rewarded with panoramic views of the iconic windmills, the quaint village houses, the Zaan River, and the surrounding Dutch countryside. It's a perfect place for photos, especially around sunrise or sunset when the light hits just right. 📸 What I loved most was the tranquility. While the main parts of Zaanse Schans can get crowded with tourists, the tower offers a moment of calm away from the bustle. It’s a great spot to take a break, soak in the beauty of the landscape, and really appreciate the charm of the Netherlands. Pro tips: It’s free to access. Wear comfy shoes—the stairs are not difficult, but they’re a bit narrow. Bring a camera or phone with a zoom lens—you’ll want to capture the views. Verdict: 9/10 Simple, serene, and absolutely worth the climb. Zaanse Schans is absolutely charming! Everything looks like a painting! The windmills, the details of the traditional houses, and the authentic Dutch atmosphere make this place feel you are back in time. Walking through the streets, catching the scent of in the air, and admiring the landscapes along the canals is truly a unique experience. The perfect mix of history, culture, and stunning views. I loved! Amazing and open-air museum to discover it all about the industrial history of the Netherlands and how the windmills played a fundamental role. Many activities to do, not to miss the factory! 😋 A wonderful, village to visit! There were tourists around but definitely still enough to move around at your own pace. There are shops for you to explore (check out their market) and the ferry ride is rather cheap too (€1-2 if I remember correctly), to get to the other side of the village. Plenty of cafes where you can sit back, soak in the vibes, and enjoy the views. A must-visit!
