Beautiful area with superb scenery and extensive from the numerous hilltop viewpoints. Idyllic villages, quaint local architecture, lovely churches and varied landscapes ranging from chalk downland to sandy heaths make it a fine place to escape the bustle of surrounding towns and cities. There are countless opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding, and the extensive tree coverage provides plenty of shade for dogs during the summer months. The main visitor attractions are generally maintained to a very high standard, with provision for parking, cafés and well signposted trails. Look beyond the popular attractions and there are some hidden gems to be found, with sprawling heathlands and rocky hills more similar to Dorset than anywhere in southeast England. It's worth doing some research and heading off the beaten path, as the best known places can get very busy on weekends. Of all the scenic regions I've visited in southeast England, the Surrey Hills has a consistency of beauty through the landscape and villages that few can match. It's worth visiting in every season, with beautiful bluebells in spring, swathes of purple heather in summer and stunning autumn colours. For a very pleasant woodland interspersed with great views, and a stop for lunch at a country pub, it's hard to beat. Good please for a walk. The stepping stones are a little bit challenging if you not an active sporty person. But you can do it!!!! Not too long. Good place for picnic too. We see people flying their drones, it’s a-bit loud to ruin the atmosphere of the quiet nature…. so If you want to fly a drone make sure you keep a distance from the people who are trying to enjoy their peacefulness ☺️ Really pretty walks with well documented routes. Bit over subscribed but big enough to avoid the crowds This is one the best national parks I've been to in England it is so peaceful and calm the view from here is fantastic you can see the city and the small village from the hill it is also fun because you can roll down the hill or go for a picnic. It's a national park you can also have a small hike there if you want l. We have biggish dog and its always hard to find places to stay with no leashe. It was lots of dogs around, but the father you go, less crowd you have. Big park! The panoramic scenery from the top is breathtaking, and on a clear day, you can see far across the Surrey Hills. The area has well-marked walking trails, from gentle family-friendly paths to more challenging hikes through the woodland. The woodland itself is peaceful and full of wildlife, making it a lovely escape from busy city life. There are picnic areas where you can relax, and it’s also dog-friendly, so great if you want to bring your pet along. The Old Fort adds a bit of history to the visit, and the National Trust café nearby is handy for snacks or a warm drink after a walk. Parking is available, and the site is managed by the National Trust, so it feels safe and well looked after. Overall, Box Hill is a fantastic spot for fresh air, exercise, and enjoying the beauty of the English countryside. First time I came here, I was 9. I'm now 49.
