Biokovo - vrh Vošac

Vošac isn't even among the highest summits of Biokovo but it is special for being positioned in the first line of summits overlooking the coast and maritime slopes of the mountain. Therefore it is very picturesque and provides one of the most popular panoramas in Croatia with the town of Makarska and the sea to the west and vast, strong to the east. It can be easily reached by a half-hour hike from the nearby road or by an exhausting ascent from Makarska. It is occupied by a small hut made from stone which is opened in summer. Definitely a checkpoint for both tourists and genuine mountaineers. If you like the mountains, you have to explore Biokovo on foot. Vošac (1422 m) is a good start, an easy trek - the journey is better than the end destination. Nice easy trail, 30min. Since I was visiting Makarska riviera for the 3rd time already, sitting mainly on the beach, this year I was looking for adventures! The was a bit challenging from the 3/4 of the for me and might be hard as well for unprepared hikers. But, overall, the is in a good condition, there are no chances to get lost. I highly recommend everyone who would like to go by this to come by car almost to the of the (you’ll save a half an hour of time and some energy) - I didn’t know about that hint and walked approximately 2.5km uphill from the seaside to get there. I was on the last week of June and I also recommend to at 4-4:30 am, so that you’ll be on the top of the at ~7am and won’t suffer from the sunshine. The nature along the is stunning and the view from the top of the is truly unforgettable! Take more water and don’t forget a sandwiches to have an unbelievable breakfast on the top ;) Great hike, very fun and a lot of different views and vegetation. From a green moon-crater landscape to sheer cliffs of grey rock. The is well-marked and easy to follow, once you've found the beginning (we started at the paragliding sign off the main Biokovo road, after entering the park by car). Just keep moving towards the little house on top of the peak! Also be sure to check out the views of Makarska from several spots, for example the spot where the paragliders supposedly jump from and the viewpoint where the to Makar crosses the to Vosec peak. The hike is sometimes a bit moderate when climbing. It's definitely not as hard as when starting from Makar, as I see most other revies talking about. Use sportive shoes or shoes, bring water, some snacks, and a few layers of clothes. Also: hardly any cellular reach. Very well maintained path!!! Highly recomanded! Great views ! You can go to Sveti Jure from here. (Hard hike/trail run) This is challenging, going up was easier then going down because the loose rocks make it harder going down. The is well marked and easy to find from makarska. I drove to the of the trail, easy to find the free parking lot. I wore running shoes but would recommend shoes for foot comfort and stability. It took me 2.5 hours to go up and 2 hours to come down. I was in the shade 90% of the time but I started at 5:15am because temperatures for the day were going up to 37 degrees Celsius. If you love hiking, this is a must! There are two possible ways from Makarska. One through Makar and one through Veliko Brdo. I went from Makarska harbour to Veliko Brdo and back through Makar. The views are amazing! It's just wonderful.
