Cave of Las Monedas

We visited Las Monedas and El castillo. You need 15 min to walk between both. We finished late our tour in el Castillo so is good to leave 30 min between both. Inside is quite slippery. Most of the visit is about geology, our guide was very nice but tours are only on Spanish. Last few min we saw some prehistoric paints. Great experience, nice cave, extraordinary presentation and good way of knowing and understanding history. No pictures as you're not allowed, was it worth it?? Make your own mind up, wanted originally to go in to Castillo caves but tickets were sold out and these were almost sold out so book in advance What a great experience! Our guide clearly loved what he was doing and he shared a lot of great information along our tour. Give yourself about 15 minutes to walk to the entrance! Two caves, Las Monedas and el Castillo are 600m apart, they share a carpark and office. Both excellent with art and beautiful geology. Guided tours, 12 visitors at a time. Guides speak some English. Note lots of stairs and slippy uneven surfaces, not for those with limited mobility. Tickets can be bought in advance via website IF it works. We bought on the day no problem but might be an issue high season Of great natural, historical and cultural value! A must see while it can be visited. Our have guide Oscar has very good knowledge, as all the other guides (mentioned in the reviews). If you want to know more guides will give as much insight as allows. Geological formations are impressive. Its priceless to be able to see the paintings so close and most important authentic. note this isn't wheel chair accessible or if you have any injuries when walking. Older kids will find it very interesting. It's amazing how some people still thinks it's fun to take pictures of the paintings, seems they don't consider some of them are 35,000 years old a(El Castillo) don't realize that just by visiting the environment is deteriorated; please be considered and respectfull, no videos, no photos allowed. Definitely worth visiting. (We did the visit in Spanish, better to enquire about English visits) The paintings are definitely impressive and we learnt a lot, even though, like probably most visitors, we only went to this because the other one, like most in the area, was booked out. The organization is quite a mess, however: all tours are mainly Spanish with the guides translating parts into English or French for the foreign visitors. Why not simply offer English tours from to time? The online purchase is very confusing: after paying you get an email that tells you to show up 40 minutes early at a visitor center to BUY your ticket. But it was just charged to my credit card?! It is unclear which visitor center is meant, somewhere it says down the street, but an employee at the parking lot told us the one at the entrance would do. Then they have lunch break until 3pm, so how are you supposed to show up 40 minutes early if your tour starts at 3:10 at the entrance that is a 10 minute walk from the visitor centre (15 to 20 minutes in the heat with kids). Why don't they just accept the email as ticket? After giving your name at the visitor centre you get a receipt which serves as your ticket, then we had to run from the visitor center to the entrance to make it on (fun fact: the guide didn't even want to see the ticket!) Visitors: avoid the 3:10 slot at all cost Cave people: please arrive in the 21st century and email a real digital ticket. To see that hand drawn pictures felt like beeing greeted very personally over a distance of more than 30000 years. Amazing!
