Churchill AVRE Tank

Caen, France Historical landmark

One of the Best Places To Visits in Lion-sur-Mer Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. A very nice place for history enthusiasts and specially for world war II “fans” One of a number of tanks being used as a monument on the Normandy coast. Looking a bit rusty these days, and I'm really not sure about that colour. Still, you've got to admire the AVRE mortar tanks and the work they did knocking out fearsome bunkers on D-Day. This one, refurbished in 1994 and again in 2004, could use another clean up. It was originally put here to remember the Royal Ulster Rifles. Word of warning: avoid parking in the adjacent car park. It's apparently for buses. They don't like it! A fine memorial to men who fought here on and after 6th June, next to it is a memorial to commandos who died on 6th June. Unfortunately someone has no repect and wrote graffiti on the memorial. It’s a tank well preserved by the side of the road nothing else there This Churchill AVRE was restored in 1994 by the 15 Field Workshop. (It was restored several times, in 2000 and 2010) It was then left outside without any upkeep. and because of this almost all external parts, were restored with plastic parts. like the mudflaps are restored with plastic mudflaps. In 2014 it was restored again, with a terrible green candy color. Today its in a rusty state, because of no cleaning and upkeep. You can find this tank near the memorial for the 41ste Royal Marine Commandos. Very clean and well maintained tank, unfortunately you can’t climb on it, but walking around it will suffice.
