Τα κεφτεδάκια και τα γλυκάδια,must!!! It’s more like a pilgrimage eating there. Horrible road, just enough horrible to make it difficult for all those instagram foodies, which is a plus. The food is exceptional. The decor is indeed authentic. The prices are 20€ pp. Totally worth it on a cold winter day. I have written reviews about hidden gems, but this... this is the crown jewel. Difficult to reach, hidden in "pomakochoria"region, in the further away villages before crossing to Bulgaria, about 2 hours north of Xanthi city. The last 8 kilometres are unpaved road, but still reachable by any ordinary car or caravan. It's not a restaurant, neither a tavern. It is home, a real one old home which serves food. There is no menu here, no appetizers, vegan choices or gluten free. But be certain that whatever you're served is the best of the season! Never tasted more natural, fully organic tomatoes, full of flavour and aroma. Potatoes are cultivated in the area. Pies are made the way they eat them, one with cornflower and cheese, the other with handmade fyllo and herbs. Meatwise you can taste lamb and pork in various recipes. The best for me is barbequed on coal grill. But the taste is not what you have tried(if you have tried before in Greece). Here the meats are tenderized and marinated before they are cooked and they are seasoned with spices mostly sweet paprika and salt. As a result you taste a wonderful lamb chop or kebab or meatball with some sweet aftertaste which cannot be described! After your lunch you should certainly order coffee. Not espressos, not filter, the coffee the locals drink up there in the mountains. It's called greek coffee (if you're greek) but they know it as Turkish. Thick black coffee served with yogurt and honey and small pieces of "ravani"(something like spongie cake with syrup, delicious) After this you can the upper floor of the residence. Ooooohhhh my! It's a museum, it's like time stopped up there. The upper floor was the residence of the owners father. When he past away, the son (about 70 years old now) kept his place and his belongings as they where and he made an exhibition where you can see how people lived 150 years ago. It's not like museums, you can touch everything, you can seat or feel the fabrics and floor mats which are all handmade of course! Notice, you can not pay by card! There is no internet, so POS doesn't work. Only cash. (Probably you will not get any reception on your phone either) I highly recommend to try this place! It's not just another dinner, it is an experience . A real one, not like these on travel guides. It's difficult to get there You will be served whatever is on menu that day No conveniences, no internet. BUT you will be astonished! A must when around Xanthi! Original tastes of Thrace, house of Pomakohoria, it is like a folklore museum inside! Rough to reach but definitively worths it! This is probably the best restaurant in the wider Greek north. Don't miss out if you are around here, you must and sample food and enjoy the beautiful views. The trip getting here is a treat in itself too. Just an amazing place that's worth visiting, even though the to there is not so good. The food is the best, people are nice and the place is pretty unique. You probably will never find something so nice, so you must it! Worth visit.Fantastic authentic dishes, great view and nice atmosphere.Go early because it gets busy Μοναδικές γεύσεις, ατμόσφαιρα και περιβάλλον ! For all you travalers out there. This is the place you have to visit. It is a gem hidden in the mountains of the northern Greece close to bulgarian borders. It is a bit of a challenge to reach it, but the journey itself and the destination is well worth your time and the effort. While you are there check the second floor of the tavern, where a very interesting museum of lifestyle is presented. Needless to say that the cuisine is beyond amazing👌 Αξίζει η οδήγηση σε χωματόδρομο....πολυ καλό φαγητό ο χώρος είναι διακοσμημένος σαν παλιά παραδοσιακή ταβέρνα και η εξυπηρέτηση σαν να είσαι με φίλους.Διαλεξτε το τραπεζάκι δίπλα στο παράθυρο που έχει θέα στο χωριό (δείτε φώτο) The is very grueling and tiring, and it takes hours. The dirt part is even more tiring than the rest of the journey. The food was frankly unimpressive. The meat was tough and mediocre. The prices were unnecessarily expensive. The journey that takes hours and hours, including all the dirt roads, is not worth it for an overpriced meal. There are dozens of taverns and restaurants in the Xanthi and Rhodope provinces of Thrace with the same taste. The service was not good. The tables were very close together. Even if you call and make a reservation hours or days in advance, your table is not guaranteed. On the other hand, the mountain view was beautiful. It’s a unique life time experience - this is a tavern and a museum of the race of Pomakoi that I hope will not be lost. The food is beyond amazing and the old couple of pomakoi race are full of kindness and gentleness - all the dishes are delicious ! Nice little taverna in the middle of nowhere near the Bulgarian border. It is also a museum representing the Pomak culture, mix of greek turkish and Bulgarian heritage. I definitely recommend it to any visitors wanting an off the beaten paths experience. But you have to have a 4x4 or adventure motorcycle to get there the is in really bad condition. Stunning location, great drive through the Rodopi range and some very interesting villages with buildings, stone bridges, hot baths and one of the most ornamental mosques in the region Ήταν όλα φανταστικά!! Although it requires a 1.5-hour drive from Xanthi, the journey is absolutely worth it. A wonderful couple runs this tavern with genuine warmth and hospitality. The food is simple, authentic, and unbelievably delicious. Must-tries: The pickles Roasted eggplant Lamb sweetbreads & chops Oven-baked potatoes A hidden gem you’ll be glad you discovered.
