The museum: From the half of the we were able to see, was very good. It had a modern setup and flow, that made the exhibit more interactive. Problem: I could not see where to park. From Google street view I could see no signage to say we couldn't park. Now, considering it was on winter hours and closed at 15:30pm. We went on a Monday, before the Greek National Day on Tuesday. Arrived a little before 14:00pm. I drove, into the open car park, that was full of empty spaces (nor will it fill up, based on the time of day and the season). No signage. Saw a staff member on the phone outside, she directed us to the pedestrian entrance in English. Clearly, we couldn't look more like tourists. Zero comment made about parking. We got through half the museum, before someone, who had taken time out of their very busy schedule, instructed the old boy security guard to get us to move the car. He approached suddenly in broken English. Now, I don't speak Greek so I don't expect anyone to speak English. He was polite, but it wasn't immediately clear what this unusual interruption was. He said you have car, car? He asked to move it. Which, I said I would. If I'm not supposed to there, even though no signage is in place, then I will move it fine. However, they wanted it moved immediately. Bare in mind, the place closed in hour, we where the only ones there. We would've been done within 20 minutes. We essentially got kicked out, by their own failings. This is unreasonable. Upon going back to the car, we counted 9 available spaces to park. Traffic was busy outside, as people where going home for the holiday tomorrow I presumed. I couldn't possibly turn left to find parking and would have to follow the congested parking and try to somewhere else. All this, for then going back to a for 20 minutes. No chance. All this stemmed from some jobsworth, calling through to get the old security guard to get us to move. Why? No reasonable explanation for that. Although I didn’t find the use of space and presentation very successful, I was pleased to see that, albeit slowly, there is a shift away from the boring classical museology where exhibits are lined up along display cases. This is a very new and modern museum. The collection is rather small but you will get a nice introduction to the of Chalkis. My favourite exhibit is the millennia old piece of funerary fabric, that holds the claim as one of the oldest in Europe. Its simplicity, art and beauty are awe inspiring. Simply amazing with unbelievable history. Great space with guides in English and some artifacts from thousands of years ago. Lots of great information and exhibition. Great place to learn and explore Greek and ancient history. Awesome! The is interactive and well explained. Staff was really helpful and friendly. The is an old wine factory and it’s nice to see they kept its for visitors to learn about it, on top of the interesting medium-size collection they have. The is a short walk (15min) from the seaside but definitely worth a visit. This was a real find. An excellent with helpful staff and some great exhibits. The shop was very good.
