Large ruins that have been carefully restored with attention to details. Not fully restored. You can walk around the and view from a distance but not get close. It’s a shame not to be able to view it better after so much effort has been made to restore it. Interesting restored 11th century chateau of Robert le Diablo or Robert, father of William I (the conqueror). Free parking, free access but unfortunately only to the outer area. The chateau is not accessible, it is fenced and locked, out of bounds to visitors. Pity after several years and many €€€ of restoration We had an afternoon spare and decided to visit this castle. Unlike some of the other reviewers, we could get inside (two doors were unlocked) but once within, the monument is disappointing. Every tower or entrance to staircase (apart from one) was locked and thus, the could not be explored. It is free to visit and that is something good. However it could be so much better. A very beautiful place, with a great view of the region. When I was a kid, It was a magical place for me, full of dreams and adventure. Now, more than 30 years later, it's still magic ! Very nice place to visit! We had the luck to be there during a festival so we could visit the entire site! Great views frim the towers! Nice quick stop off the highway to see a Norman that has all the typical hallmarks of a medieval fort. Great example of a fortified medieval and free! Easy access from Rouen by car and you can wander about in the forest if so inclined, and be cool at the same time. It was anhot day in August so shade is in demand. The view of the Rouen harbour front along the Sienne shows what a great location this is for a hilltop Norman castle, and that alone might make the drive worthwhile; the is a bonus! :) Some portions are locked, the more hazardous stairwells, etc, but you can glimpse down and get a sense of how massive this place eonce was. It was nice! Unfortunately I was not able to get in because that day was closed. It really looked beautiful in fall.
