Beautiful views and very good hike to the summit. The signage skulls and could be better as there are a few moments when you are not sure which is which. We hiked this on May 11, directly from the car park to peak took us 5 hrs and 15 mins to get to the top and around 4 hours back. You can stop for lunch at the refuge which is 2/3 of the way up. The final 1/3 is more challenging though as on the date we climbed it, that final 1/3 was covered in snow. Would highly recommend hiring spikes (go to 55 shop in town). You can also break the hike up and stay overnight in the refuge. The gateway to Skolio or of course Mytikas, the highest of the 52 peaks. The trek from Prionia is really well marked right the way to Skala. As long as you’re fit, even in low light, this trail is very easy to follow to the top. Once there, you can either turn left towards Skolio which is a continuation of a straightforward trek. Or turn right for a Grade 3 scramble up Mytikas. The car park at Prionia has loads of room, toilets, restaurants and a secret pathway to some cold water for your feet when you get down. From there to Refuge A will take you between 1.5-3hrs depending on your fitness. From there to Skala add another 2 hours or so, depending on your fitness. Coming down is faster but you can definitely do from the trail head to Skala (and Mytikas) in a day of you are of good fitness. Alternatively, crash in the hut on the way up or down to make it a 2 day expedition. As long as you are fit, Skala is achievable for the most novice trekker. Good luck! Technically undemanding route, but from Prionia to the top and back, it is quite long, 19 km and about 1900 ascent, which took us 5 hours. an asphalted road leads you to Prionia, which is also suitable for motorhomes. there is plenty of parking, fresh water, toilets and an inn. the to the Agapitos shelter is mostly shaded and the runs through the forest, but from the hut there is no more shade, it begins to climb steeply, and the steepness increases towards the top. from the top of Skala there is a wonderful view of Mytikas. it is only 20 minutes to the peak of Skolio, so it is worth going to this peak too. from there you can return the same path, or you can continue towards the Antoniou hut. in the middle of the slope there are some orange circles on the rocks along the path, there the branches off to the left down, otherwise it is poorly visible, but over pastures where horses graze and you can observe chamois, it joins the again, which leads you to the you followed climbed up. Beautiful view, not difficult to climb up from Spilios Agapitos (Zolotas) Refuge. You can see a lot of mountain goats there. Fantastic hike to Skala Peak! It’s a hard one: the total duration (for us) was 7.5h (with the lunch break on the top) and the very last part was very steep. I’ll advise to wear good mountain shoes (that I hadn’t) and technical clothes (you can feel cold if standing, but walking you’ll definitely warm up). It would be great to have some mountain sticks. A hike - which I would gladly repeat. Fatigue redeems all images. We climbed at the end of August in sports clothes. It's not difficult - you just need physical preparation. We had climbing/hiking experience, so we made it quite easily with lots of stops to admire, half an hour on the summit to have a snack. It took us 4.5 hours from the campsite and back. Check the air temperature before climbing so that you don't load yourself with extra things. Beautiful mountains, amazing scenery, we feel blessed we could experience it. ❗Info- for people with not much hiking experience - From the parking area Pironia through the Refuge Spilos Agapitos(Zolotas) it took us 9h15min up and down, from 9.15am to 9.30pm. We had 30min in the Refuge and planty of breaks along the way. It awas exhausting but so worth it and with not much preperation we made it as a one day adventure 😊👍 Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
