La roccaforte comprendeva una torre quadrangolare e una cinta muraria che racchiudeva le strutture deputate a ospitare i balestrieri e i soldati. In seguito al passaggio definitivo della Sardegna sotto la dominazione aragonese nel 1420, si decise di rimaneggiare la struttura ricavandovi una chiesa tardogotica, i cui resti sono ancora visibili, insieme alla base di quello che doveva essere il campanile.
