Very impressive and eye catching wonder of the Neolithic world for sure! Climbing on the top of the pyramid is not allowed ( you can see signs which states that). Nevertheless, we have been told by very helpful local guy, that it is favourite druids place and they are often climbing on the top of it to perform their rituals. Also, apparently, the UFO been seen hovering above the pyramid in 2020. Some pictures of UFO could be found in google. Absolutely awe-inspiring to think of the amount of manual labour it took to create this, all with primitive hand tools. Who or what could inspire primitive humans who were likely struggling to survive to spend their lives creating something like this? And we still don't know what it was for! Well yes it's a and we'll yes we don't know a lot about it. This is true. Built around 2400 BC so Bronze Age this amazing artificial mound, the tallest in Europe is 30 metres high. You can't climb it anymore for it's own protection but a dedicated, free, carpark has been provided which is super easy to access and there is a nice viewing with two sets of pretty informative information boards. It might not be the mist impressive monument to look upon bits importance is absolutely unprecedented and it's a privilege to be even a tiny part of this monuments history. If your touring the local monuments anyway add this, it's only 3 minutes from Avebury. Quite interesting place, but there is not much to say about it. We couldn't climb, the entry to was closed.
