Great place if you like archeology. Quite a steep walk the last part. You can park about 4km or 1.5km away on un-metalled Road suitable for all vehicles. Very nice walk through the forest. The system of Slavic hill forts lies on the southeast foot of Považský Inovec on the strategic point between Váh and Nitra river basins. The pass near Bojná was guarded by hill forts Bojná I (Valy), Bojná II (Hradisko), Bojná III (Žihľavník) and the location Bojná IV (Nové Valy). The locality is close to other pre-Great Moravian and Great Moravian sites like Pobedin, Ducové or Nitrianská Blatnica. The hill fort Bojná was protected by multiple walls as high as 6 meters with ditches and gates. In the 9th century, the hill fort was intensely populated. Little disappointed with this place. We were walking from parking by the river. Lot of lazy people keep driving further so road was busy which was disturbing. On the top gate looks nice, however rest is nothing special, few wooden statues, 4 wooden shades. No signs or descriptions in English. Some parts are restricted access due archeological research. It is inside forest so there are no views. We wanted to see museum in the village but during bank holidays it was closed. Don’t expect too much you want be disappointed. You have to park your car by the little stream and then it is about 800 meters walk to the main reconstructed gate. Inside that gate there are pictures and poster explaining the history of the place. You can also walk on the rampart all around the settlement but I would recommend to go to the middle of it where they have couple of buildings showing how people used to live. According to the person from the Museum in Bojna they do some celebration around Cyril and Methodius holiday in that Bojna fort. Supposes to be some kind of settlement, from time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. I presume it was never captured or conquered, mainly because nobody was able to find it. Certainly not me, even with modern technology. GPS navigated me to village of Bojna - and that was the end. Or better, beginning of adventure or quest. No road signs, very poorly marked, happen to find it just by pure coincidence. On web sites of tourist body there is description of this place being it a eight wonder - just shy of Windsor Castle or Louvre. Reality - it is a forest. Not fortress, forest with trees and nothing. Oh - there is some wooden replica of some gate. That's all. No information, description, exhibition of anything. There is museum in village - which was closed during week day. because apparently is was end of office hours. 1 of historical side with wooden replicas of origin living houses bring you back in time.
