Située en plein cœur de la vieille ville, la fontaine de la place de l’Hôtel de ville de Vilnius attire immédiatement le regard sans chercher à voler la vedette aux façades baroques qui l’entourent. J’apprécie surtout son design épuré : un mince disque de granite sombre d’où jaillit un jet central, entouré d’un voile d’eau qui retombe à fleur de pavés. Rien d’ostentatoire ; juste un accent contemporain glissé dans un décor historique. En été, les habitants s’y arrêtent pour se rafraîchir, les enfants pataugent autour du cercle et les touristes improvisent des photos reflétant les clochers voisins. La nuit, un éclairage doux souligne les éclaboussures et donne à la place un air de salon urbain. On regrette néanmoins l’absence de panneaux explicatifs ; beaucoup ignorent que l’œuvre symbolise le passage du temps et le mouvement de la ville depuis l’obtention de l’indépendance. Les jets peuvent aussi sembler timides lorsque la pression baisse. Malgré ces détails, la fontaine remplit sa mission : humaniser un vaste parvis souvent venté et offrir un point de rencontre facile à repérer. Ni monument majeur, ni gadget, elle fonctionne comme un clin d’œil moderne, simple et bienvenu. Bref, j’aime y prendre un café et regarder la vie passer paisiblement.
