A few first timers things that I would have liked to know are that, I should go on week days to get the most out of my student discount (8 euros per hour); bring a bag of spare clothes because you will sweat profusely if this is your first time and they have a changing room and shower for you to get cleaned up and slip into youre non sweaty clothes. Also if you are of the older variety and don't feel comfortable mingling with the kids, try to come early in the day before 15:00 or after 19:00 preferably not on a saturday, but if your fine with it get a pair of non slip socks and jump right in.
