Came here during the off season on a Friday and this was the only place serving food nearby, everything else was closed. A simple menu with a few breads, a few yogurts and an assortment of drinks. Pretty easy you just order at the counter and they give you your food almost right away. There are a few benches and seats around but mostly standing area. We ordered the Mekitsa which is traditional Bulgarian breakfast, no filling inside. But there are a lot of powered sugar around to put on top. Also it’s priced at 1 Lev. Piping hot Mekitsa with powdered sugar at 1 BGN each at a historical place. What more could we ask for? 5 stars and a must try. I ordered mekitsa with strawberry and mekitsa with cheese , it was crispy and hot ! What a nice Bulgarian breakfast in the morning =) We stopped whilst visiting the monastery. The bread is very tasty This was the best Mekitsa for me. Really the best food option at the monastery and so fresh and hot with some sugar on top. also sells drinks and coffee vending machine next door. Very reasonable at 1 Lev each. It’s 1.30 hr drive from Sofia. The place has a museum, functioning church, and its own post office. There is a small bakery, few shops and a restaurant outside where you grab something to eat and drink. It takes an hour to visit all. The kozounak (sweet bread) and mekitsa (doughnut) were so good... the strawberry jam that came with the doughnut was delicious. The buffalo yoghurt was just OK. Overall the vibe was really cool as you order through a small window and can eat by the store and it's no fuss. There's a vending coffee machine too. You must try the mekitza; it was delicious. It was fresh and hot, and I added sugar on top. I also purchased the monastery bread, which had just come out of the oven, and it was one of the best loaves of bread I have had in Bulgaria!
