This archeological site is all about the ruins of the villa with its high quality, large mosaics. The adjecent visitor center has some great interpretive displays and a nice souvenir shop. The introductory video does a good job in explaining some of the stories expressed in some of the mosaics. The only disappointment was the low quality of the info displays in the hall, where the actual are. Little to no information is given and some of the old signage is clearly in need of replacement. Must visit place with Roman mosaics. The guided visit is nice. Well worth a visit. Book in advance. Brilliant mosaics. Best to go in autumn or winter. late spring summer is too hot to even think out there! We went only knowing it was a Roman ruins, but after taking the tour we found out that it includes more than just a 3rd and 4th century Roman Villa. Our tour guide, park interpreter, Sergio, was well versed about the place and had a broad understanding of the history of the site. My wife speaks Spanish, and I, English. Sergio speaks both! There was a virtual reality presentation at the end of the tour. Very nicely done! It was time well spent. There are trails you can hike alongside the river nearby and a spring of cool, clear water to quench your thirst. I must mention that the tour is reserved on their website and it is free. Also, the entrance to the visitor center and park is free. Amazing ruins and from a 4th century Roman villa, definitely worth a visit. This archeological site is located about a 10 minute drive from the town of Carranque. It’s located next to the Guadarrama River, straddling between the autonomous communities of Madrid and Castile-La Mancha. The site itself is important because we can find some excellent examples of Roman mosaics. The only thing that I would improve on is the signaling. It’s missing or damaged in some places. A great place to spend the day with the family. There are also some workshops dedicated to teaching adults and children about ancient Roman life.
