There’s no cafe, shops or even proper parking, just a bit of grass, and a kitschy device that’s supposed to put you in a scene from the movie if you place your camera in it and set the timer. If you’re in the neighbourhood visiting the ice caves or castle, then this is worth a short diversion, but no more, and definitely not worth a 90 minute round trip from Salzburg. Would advise driving up. You can park on the side of the road. I think if you hiked up it could be a little disappointing. Views are great, the little touches of the family in a scene to make a photo are fun, nice place to spend a few minutes taking in the scenery but that's about it. It was definitely the highlight of the day. It was so beautiful and breathtaking. Would love to visit again. Shame that iphone could not capture the beauty of this place. Was a little cloudy when we went to we couldn’t see the top of the mountain but totally accessible by walking from the train station and only took us half an hour to get up! Totally worth it A little tricky to find the start of the trail, but if you put it in google maps and follow the directions you'll get there. It's a good hike, but there are places to stop along the way to rest and take in the view. Once you get to the top the view is incredible. Wow. This was amazing. Great stop if you are staying in Salzburg. Enter Werfen and look for the Sound of Music Trail starting sign. Walk up the hill, past all the music boxes and other Sound of Music easter eggs, and to the meadow. Try and take the view in. You just can’t. It’s too magnificent, too grand, too amazing. The movie makes it all the more special. You can walk 30minutes from the center but also go by car and park there on the side of the street. Nice view like in the movie and not a lot of people here. If you are in the neighbourhood and the weather is great a must see for Sound of music fans.
