Two colleagues and myself volunteered here at the end of September. We had such a great day learning about the breed, the organization, and what goes in to looking after a husky. The are all so well cared for. We each got to take a dog on a group walk and Andy answered all of our questions. Well done Andy on running a tight ship and always having the dogs' best interest first. As an experienced owner of Akitas — a breed that requires deep individual bonding and structured training — I offered a well-prepared, loving home. Instead of assessing my experience and the dog’s emotional needs, I was dismissed over a fencing technicality. Akitas suffer in shelters. They are not meant to be locked in kennels without the chance to build a connection with one person. But Husky Ireland seems more focused on good-looking photos and donation campaigns than real rehabilitation. Behavioural training? Not even mentioned. Their come in and out constantly — a sign of poor adoption matching and minimal education efforts. When I raised these concerns, I was blocked. Silencing experienced voices doesn't help the — it only protects a broken system. It's also important to note that this organisation was recently removed from the official charity register, raising legitimate questions about financial transparency and purpose. If they now operate as a business, donors and adopters should be clearly informed. Rather than placing with capable families, they keep them confined — while people like me end up buying puppies instead. It’s a sad failure of mission and compassion. Did volunteering for a day in this and the team is wonderful. They give a lot of love to the and take really good care of them. If you're either looking to help or would like to adopt a fairly big dog, this is the place to go. Volunteered with this excellent for years (unfortunately can’t for now but hope to again) and such a well run place. Andy, Tara and team care so much about the dogs. The are treated so well and loved and cared for with a strong focus on getting them the right homes. Highly recommend you all supporting either by adopting, helping, volunteering and /or donating. It’s an expensive business. Every volunteer gives their time for free. They need our help. Marie mc I adopted Teeko through the Swedish organisation Hundar Utan Hem, which works together with Husky Ireland. Whenever I've had questions about Teeko, Tara has answered swiftly. On one occasion I called ahead, and Andy had all the answers I was looking for. It takes a lot of caring for just one dog, I can't imagine how much it must be coordinating an entire and making things work. Thank you Tara, Andy and team. A fantastic place working extremely hard to find homes for dogs. Always putting the first which is great to see and the effort behind the operation is second to none. With all the they get done it's hard to believe everyone is a volunteer. Extremely honest with their feedback on all the looking for homes which is great as it helps you understand if you and the dog are a good match for each other.
