Best for day-trippers from the Twin Cities seeking scenic hiking and water activities. Less suited to those wanting flat, paved paths — rocky trails and steep steps require sturdy shoes. Weekday mornings are significantly quieter with easier parking. Rocky trails are unsuitable for sandals. In winter, bring traction spikes. The south lot near the ranger station has more parking than the north lot. A vehicle day pass can be purchased via QR code at the entrance.
